The purpose of this research is aim to study the public finance history from Chinese ancient times to modern and contemporary times, and takes China’s way of producing material  and the public finance system ideas as the research objects. 

The research team of this field is led by Professor Wang Wensu. The vision and mission of the team is as follows: 1, revealing the pattern of China’s social development. The creation and evolution of China’s conventional economic system and ideas has always taken the governance and public finance as the priority, therefore, the public finance history study might reveal in a comprehensive way the pattern of China’s social development. 2,   providing source of ideas to public finance study. All of the abstract theories in public finance study are rooted from the objective process of public finance history development, study on public finance history can reveal and sum up the pattern of public finance development and experience from history, which is an integral part of the theory system of public finance study. 3, Renewing the methodology. The institute applies the modern public finance theory to study the history, is committed to standardized and scientific research methodology, employs the quantitative economics to reconstruct the database of public finance history so that scholars can incorporate more economical principles in the history analysis; it endeavors to understand the overall process of history, explore economic patterns and summarize the significance of the lessons learned from history so that the public finance history study can be more accurate, scientific, standardized and relevant to reality. 4, promoting the development of humanities and social science. China’s public finance ideas is the asset in human’s economic ideas, hence it is only natural to require China’s public finance study to review, inherit and learn from the patterns and experience drawn from the public finance history. 5, keeping in contact with the peers from home and abroad who also study public finance history. The institute gathers relevant research achievement from home and abroad, organizes academic information exchange and seminar, and carries out international academic exchange.
