主题:“Economic shocks and civil conflict: Evidence from financial crisis”主办单位:中国财政发展协同创新中心时间:2017年11月22 日(周三)13:30-15:00 地点:沙河校区主教403室 主讲人:Eric Lenz The speaker is an assistant professor in Texas A&M’s Department of Economics and the Bush School of Government and Public Service teaching economic data analysis, economic forecasting, and international economics. He researches international economics and finance with a focus on conflict, terrorism, and other market disruptions.讲座概要: Recent development research relates civil conflict risk to exogenous income shocks. Income decline in small open economies relates to the recent global financial crisis that began in the U.S. Can a financial crisis with origins in a major industrial country increase conflict risk in small open economies through a decline in income? Using direct measures of financial crisis, and controlling for country-specific effects on the incidence of conflict, I find negative income effects from exogenous financial crises and their associated income redistribution that relate to increased civil conflict risk. Furthermore, I find some evidence of increased conflict risk in ethnically-fractionalized, capitalist economies that redistribute income during a financial crisis.
